Mannitol and Glycerin Infusion IH

Therapeutic Use:

Mannitol and Glycerin Infusion IH is a sterile, non-pyrogenic intravenous solution used primarily for the reduction of intracranial and intraocular pressure. It is commonly administered in cases of cerebral edema, glaucoma, and acute renal failure to promote diuresis and reduce fluid accumulation in tissues.

Mechanism of Action:

Mannitol and glycerin are osmotic diuretics that increase the osmolarity of the blood and renal filtrate. This osmotic gradient draws excess fluid out of tissues (such as brain and ocular tissue) and into the vascular system, where it is excreted through the kidneys. The combined action helps lower pressure in the brain and eyes and improves renal function by increasing urine output.
