Therapeutic Use:

Linezolid is an oxazolidinone class antibiotic used for the treatment of Gram-positive bacterial infections, including MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and VRE (Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus), Hospital-acquired and community-acquired pneumonia, Complicated skin and soft tissue infections, and Bacteremia caused by susceptible Gram-positive pathogens.

Mechanism of Action:

Linezolid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit, preventing formation of the functional 70S initiation complex essential for bacterial reproduction.
