Sodium Chloride and Dextrose Injection IP 0.9% and 5% w/v

Sodium Chloride and Dextrose Injection IP 0.9% and 5% w/v

Therapeutic Use:

This combination IV solution is used for fluid replenishment, electrolyte balance restoration, and energy supply in dehydrated or critically ill patients. It is particularly useful in conditions like hypovolemia, post-surgical fluid loss, and metabolic acidosis, where both glucose and electrolytes are needed to stabilize the patient.

Mechanism of Action:

Dextrose (5%) supplies glucose, providing a quick source of energy to restore metabolic function. Sodium chloride (0.9%) maintains osmotic balance, prevents sodium depletion, and supports nerve and muscle function. Together, they correct electrolyte imbalances while ensuring proper hydration.

Key Benefits:

  • ✔ Provides hydration and essential electrolytes in a single infusion.
  • ✔ Helps stabilize blood pressure and prevent sodium imbalances.
  • ✔ Used in post-operative fluid replacement and diabetic ketoacidosis management.
  • ✔ Supports intravenous drug delivery by acting as a diluent.
